Well, if you don’t have that suction tube on, get a tube of lube and squirt a bunch up in it by the gears, bump the engine a few times to rotate the gears pulling the lube in between them and you should be fine. Should pull the oil up and start pumping no problem. It’ll take a few seconds for the gauge to move so don’t get to excited…OLDSKOOLERnWV,Jan 22, 2025 at 11:15 AM

Walked in the shop again and seen this old pump, it dawned on me…. Pull that plug out and pour you some oil down in it slowly and you should be off to the races. That goes right in to the gears…

That’s the sensor I mentioned about pulling and adding oil too. I haven’t put my pan on yet as I’m waiting on a good used transfer tube, to be shipped to me. All that will go together, this weekend. I still like the idea of purging the system will clean oil with a pump but I realize most will think it, unnecessary.

I have an oil pressure gauge under the hood on my firewall. If my engine is ever apart I add oil with the 12 volt pump and pressurize the whole system before starting the engine. Just something I do, not that it’s required, but I know where the oil is and isn’t.When I pulled this Jeep engine apart after setting for 28 years, there was still oil on the bottom rod and main bearings. Many say that if a engine sets for a year there’s no oil at all in the bearings. That has not been my experience 100% of the time….

Yes Sir. Had 29,460 miles on it when her dad parked it in 1987. It’s a 77 model.Originally a 1977 CJ5 Renegade Levi’s edition, blue on blue. I have the blue Levi seats, dash, sun visors in the shop. The 3 spd was locked up from setting and rain going down around the shifter, so I bought a used T18 Borg Warner 4 spd out of a 78 CJ5. Worked on it from 2017 till august 2024. Got some little things to tidy up, but it’s running and driving….
