Atasözlerinin ve deyimlerin Türkçe ve Arapça karşılıkla rı verilirken İngilizce asılları esas alınmıştır. Tam karşılık ları bulunabildiği zaman aynen verilmiş ancak bulunama dığı hallerde çeviri yoluna gidilmiştir. Türkçe 'de aynı ya da çok yakın anlamlı atasözlerinin bulunması halinde birden fazla karşılık verilmesi uygun görülmüştür. Arapça metin tekrar gözden geçirilmiş, gerekli görülen değişiklikler yapılmıştır. Bu değişiklikler bazen ilaveler yap mak, birden fazla karşılık vermek ve bazen de aslını kısmen ya da tamamen değiştirmek suretiyle yapılmıştır. Bu çalışmanın, İngilizce, Arapça ve Türkçe öğrenme ça basında olan kimselerin yanısıra atasözlerine ve deyimlere ilgi duyan araştırmacılara da yararlı olacağı ümidindeyiz. Tarih araştırmacıların başvurduğu kaynaklar arasında arkeolojik veriler, kronikler, arşiv vesikaları ve mektuplar birinci derece ehemmiyet sahiptir. Özellikle Orta Çağ'dan günümüze gelen kısıtlı mektuplar ister idari vasıf taşıyan isterse özel mektuplar olsun tarih araştırmacıları için bir hayli önem taşımaktadır. Bu mektupların bir kısmı henüz kütüphane ve özel koleksiyonlarda araştırmayı beklerken bir kısmı ise yayımlanmıştır. Bu çalışmada ele aldığımız mektup İlhanlı Veziri Reşîdüddin Fazlullah tarafından dönemin önde gelen âlimlerinden Mecdüddin İsmeil-i Falî'ye yazılmıştır. Fakat Orta Çağ'dan gelen mektupların gerçekliği konusunda ihtiyatlı davranılması gerekmektir. Çünkü mektupların gerçekliği ve sahteliği konusunun yadsınamaz bir problem olduğunu belirtmemiz gerekir. Bu problem "Mukâtebât-ı Reşidi" ismiyle yayımlanan eser için de söz konusudur. Muhammed Şafi 1945 yılında Lahor'da bu eseri yayımladıktan hemen sonra ilim dünyasında mektuplar "Reşiduddin Fazlullah tarafından mı yazıldı? Yoksa kurgu mu?" tartışması başladı. Bu tartışmalara girmeden evvel Reşiduddin Fazlullah'ı ve oğullarının düğünü vesilesiyle mektup gönderdiği Mecdüddin Ismeil-i Fali'nin hayatı hakkında kısaca bilgi vermek yerinde olacaktır.

This article is devoted to the translation problems of culture-bound words and expressions from the Uzbek language into the English language. Such words and expressions create difficulties for the translator. It is very challenging to find a suitable equivalent from the target language. Translation occurs as a result of human activity that allows people to exchange ideas and opinions, regardless of their different languages and cultures. Translation is a kind of cross-linguistic, cross-cultural and cross-social communication. As a kind of communication, the main purpose is nothing but to establish equivalence between the source text and the target text. In other words, as the receiver of the source message and the sender of the target message, the translator should try his best to convey all the contents of the source text into the target text, otherwise, translation as a kind of communication would end in failure

AbstractThis paper deals mainly with some of the difficulties the translator might encounter when translating some culturally bound pieces of information. These would include the translation of some idioms, and some culturally bound concepts. The paper starts with definitions of translation, language and culture followed by an extensive analysis of the examples provided. All the examples are drawn from Arabic and English. The examples include the translation of some idioms which violate truth conditions, which are easily recognizable, and some others which may be translated either literally or idiomatically with obviously different results. Then the analysis moves to the translation of some culturally bound expressions from both Arabic and English. Here, we find examples that cannot be translated into the other language simply for lack of cultural equivalents. Yemek unsuruyla kültür ve inanç arasında sağlam bir bağ olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Yemeğin ritüellere dâhil edilmesi aslında yemeğin ahlâkî ve sosyal bir yapıyı şekillendirecek ve kişiyi ötekinden ayrıştıracak bir kimlik inşa etmesinde önemli bir unsur olarak kullanması anlamına gelmektedir. Bu tür merasim ve ayinlerin bir parçası olmasının dışında yemeğin kendisi de zaten bir ritüeldir. Tekkede derviş eğitiminde yemek ve yemekle ilgili hususlar, eğitimin bir parçası olarak önemli görülmektedir. Basmala: Translating An Iconic Phrase

This note examines how an iconic Arabic phrase such as the basmala has been translated into Persian and English. These translations reflect different aesthetic, political and cultural aspects of this phrase. Outside of its Qur'ānic context, embedded within it, the basmala has extended cultural meanings. An equivalence-based approach to the translation of formulaic expressions would not suffice for the translation of the basmala in literary contexts.
